Second Best (Background, Music, Lyrics)
|
BACKGROUND The song "Second Best" was written in 1985. This was prior to my meeting the wonderful cuddle-buddy (wife) I have today. There was a very pretty (and perhaps not so available) young lady living across the breezeway at an apartment I once lived at. She was dating a doctor and I was in the middle of parting from a bad relationship. Not the best situation to begin building a relationship upon. During a quick blink in the duration of my timeline, my little neighbor spent some quality time with me. She later pulled away and expressed emotional guilt because each of us were committed to someone else. Perhaps guilt was the reason she immediately moved out of the apartment complex and was never to be seen again. The song "Second Best" captures some of the feelings experienced at that time in my life.

"Second Best Lyrics" All I want to do is hold you. Hold you all night long. But you’re waiting on somebody else, All I’m left with is this song. Wanted to visit with you. So I could get closer to your heart. But you’re waiting on somebody else. Someone who has a head start. But it’s hard to be labeled second best, when you’ve done everything you can do. Maybe I should kill these feelings and find somebody new? Somebody new. All I want to do is kiss you. Kiss you all night long. But I know you’re loving someone else, I don’t feel that’s where you belong. All I want to do is touch you. Touch you all night long. These feelings created, spending time with you You led me on that’s got to be wrong. But it’s hard to be labeled second best, when you’ve done everything you can do. Maybe I should kill these feelings and find somebody new? Somebody new. Strings. But it’s hard to be labeled second best, when you’ve done everything you can do. Maybe I should kill these feelings and find somebody new? Somebody new.
